We explore more…

What’s the mission of @shoesofnyc?
Shoes say a lot about a person and we want to create a community around this concept. The mission of @shoesofnyc is to build a platform of discovery for those with a passion for footwear.

Where did the idea originate?
We’re longtime friends from Seattle who both work in creative industries. The idea came to us on a whim and we ran with it.

No pun intended! A city like NYC, the approach has to be fun…
We stop strangers in the streets of NYC. Given the number of unique personalities in the city you can only imagine the interesting characters we encounter everyday. Our approach differs based on first impressions – what neighborhood are we in, how worn in their shoes are, are they in a rush? We’ve become pretty good at reading people and determining whether or not we’ll get a good story.

Strangest moment on the street?
The first time someone we stopped was already a follower of @shoesofnyc. That was a strange yet exciting feeling.

Do you have a favorite moment / encounter from the street?
One time we asked David Beckham for a photo of his shoes. He seemed confused as to why we wanted a picture of his shoes and not his face…he sadly declined but he’s on our hit list.

Ha! I love it! Any bad encounters?
Not at all. We’ve only had 2 people ever turn us down and for as bad a wrap as New Yorkers get about their attitudes, everyone we’ve stopped has been friendly and willing to chat with us.

The shoes are great, don’t get me wrong but part of me wonders…what does the REST of their outfit look like….
Good question! Follow our Snapchat to find out – username: shoesofnyc.

So great! At this point I imagine your friends are a little bit insecure about their shoes around you – no?
Not sure we’d say that they’re insecure but they definitely come to us for shoe advice…and they all want to make it on the account.

So, back home…what are we looking at? Big shoe collection? Favorite pairs? A staple you’ve always owned? How many shoes do you have…
As footwear obsessed as we are we both keep our shoe game pretty tight. We each have our go-to’s and our mindset is always quality over quantity. Some of our favorites: Stan Smiths, Sabahs, Axel Arigato, Feit and Hobes.

What’s next? Another city? Another country? Retail?
We want to make @shoesofnyc a worldwide brand. Coming to a city near you soon…
